I Have Seen the Alchemic Eye of the Sun: A Brief Return to Autumn for Earth Day

For today’s poem, I have one I published back in the Autumn on seeing the changing leaves first under the clouds and then in the sun. Enjoy.

“I have seen the alchemic eye of the sun”

I have seen the alchemic eye of the Sun,
Dusty ochre turned to glistering gold.
Its aureate rays all shine and play and run
Across the tree tops. The dying light is bold.
Before, the straying clouds hid its power,
But set free, its rays bring life from death,
And we bask in its autumnal hour.
Gilded rays then give way to Autumn's breath.
Crisp air turns cold and the day gives way to night.
The gold and ruby leaves grow dull and fall.
The wandering Moon and twinkling stars cast their light,
And turn the world to silver. My thoughts wander all
Like lonely clouds as I am left to ponder
What more may come. I wonder, yes, I wonder.
